6 Effective Spray Bottles We Tested and Loved (2025)

When shopping for a spray bottle, quality is the most important thing to consider, as it can really make or break a bottle’s performance and determine whether it’s actually sustainable.

“High-quality bottles are built to last,” says Marilee Nelson, co-founder of Branch Basics, a cleaning products company specializing in nontoxic refillable formulas. “Cheaper, lower-quality bottles can break easily or wear down over time, meaning you’ll have to replace them more frequently.”

To find the best spray bottles for cleaning products, room sprays, and more, we tested 14 options inThe Lab. After 8 hours of testing, we’ve narrowed it down to six best reusable spray bottles in multiple categories. We think the best spray bottles are reusable, made from durable materials, and can accommodate different products and formulas.

Our Top Picks

What We Like

  • Wide mist

  • Even spray

  • High-quality construction

  • Dishwasher safe

  • Made from recycled materials

What We Don't Like

  • Doesn’t have a lock setting

  • Clear glass isn’t suitable for all cleaning formulas

The best spray bottle overall is, without a doubt, the Grove Co. Reusable Cleaning Bottle. It’s made from high-quality recycled glass and features a thick and durable plastic nozzle with multiple settings and a protective silicone sleeve base that doubles as a label for the bottle’s contents.

The spray setting was sufficiently strong, and the mist was wide and even (which we think would be great for cleaning countertops or mirrors). This bottle sprayed just as well when angled sideways as it did when it was upright, which couldn’t be said for all of our picks.

While this pick is a bit of an upfront investment compared to some of our other favorites, its construction and versatility justify the price tag. You certainly get what you pay for because, in addition to its overall high quality and effectiveness, there are small but helpful details like the nozzle labeled for the spray settings and the dishwasher-safe material.

Since it is so well-made and a bit of a splurge for a spray bottle, we think this would make for a great gift idea, along with some cleaning formulas or ingredients to fill it.

What We Like

  • Nozzle settings are clearly labeled

  • Effective spray, even when the cleaning solution is low

  • No leakage whatsoever

  • Budget-friendly

What We Don't Like

  • Can’t activate spray when the bottle is on its side

The Everspring Glass Reusable Cleaning Spray Bottle—which you can find at Target—is another excellent choice. This reusable glass spray bottle costs under $7 and holds 20 ounces of liquid, making it a great choice for all-purpose cleaners, disinfectant sprays, and room sprays.

While testing, we appreciated how the spray settings were indicated by small icons on the nozzle, and how well it sprayed, even when the cleaning solution was super low. The concentrated stream, in particular, felt very powerful and ideal for targeting grout lines. While it doesn’t work at all if it’s tilted on its side, it also doesn’t leak, which is a trade-off we’re willing to make since the last thing we want is for the cleaning solution to spill.

Similar to ourbest pick overall, the base of this bottle has a silicone layer for added protection and security from tipping over. It also has measurement etchings, so you can clearly identify the amount of liquid left or mix your own cleaning solutions directly in the bottle.

What We Like

  • Longest spray length

  • Comfortable to spray in any direction

  • Doesn’t leak at all

What We Don't Like

  • Not suitable for combustibles, solvents, bleaches, or acids

  • Only one spray option (stream)

If you need a low-cost all-purpose spray bottle, we recommend the Zep Professional Sprayer Bottle. This heavy-duty plastic spray bottle can hold a whopping 32 ounces. Plus, out of all the bottles we tested, it had the longest recorded spray length, around 20.5 feet (so you could even hold your own using it in a water fight!).

It offers one spray setting (stream), so if you need a mister, you may want to skip this one. This one setting performs particularly well, though, and we found it comfortable for spraying upright, sideways, and upside down.

The bottle is made from a thick and durable plastic that is compatible with a variety of cleaning formulas. However, it’s not suitable for combustibles, solvents, bleaches, or acids, so keep that in mind when shopping.

Nonetheless, thanks to its accessible price and the steady and strong spray, we think it’s a great choice if you want a fuss-free all-purpose spray bottle that can be used for a variety of household purposes, from cleaning the bathroom to wiping down the kitchen counters.

What We Like

  • Easy to fill at the sink

  • Long-lasting

  • Amber glass

  • Excellent cost per bottle

What We Don't Like

  • You have to commit to buying six bottles

For a set that can cover all of your cleaning bases, consider the Sally’s Organics Empty Amber Glass Spray Bottles, which come in a six-pack on Amazon. These reusable glass spray bottles can hold up to 16 ounces of cleaning solution and have an amber hue, so they’re compatible with essential oils and DIY cleaning products. They also look beautiful on a countertop, so they’re a great aesthetic choice, too.

Aside from their looks, the spray bottles are also super functional, and we love that you can easily fill them in the sink. They also have even distribution, and they don’t require a ton of water or liquid for an effective and even spray (even at 0.25 inches full, we could still get around 20 sprays out of it).

The spray is more mist-like than it is a direct, concentrated stream, so that’s something to keep in mind—but that could be a benefit if you’re planning to use these for cleaning and plant misting.

What We Like

  • Doesn’t leak

  • Can spray when tilted

  • Sprays evenly with all liquid levels

  • Additional cap included

What We Don’t Like

  • Nozzle isn’t labeled

The Rayson Empty Spray Bottle Refillable Container was the clear winner for the best plastic spray bottle. It is more compact than most of the others we tried, so it doesn’t hold a lot of liquid, but its short, squat shape makes it a good space-saving option.

Plus, the budget-friendly price tag allows you to grab a couple of them for different cleaning solutions. This would be a great choice for DIY anti-odor sprays for coats and other garments, for kitchen surface spray, or even for linen spray as its smaller size can easily tuck into a linen closet.

From a quality standpoint, the spray mists evenly at all liquid levels (even when super low), and it doesn’t leak at all when tilted or lying on its side. You can also spray when the bottle is tipped sideways, though it isn’t quite as effective as when it’s completely upright.

Unlike some other options on our list, the nozzle isn’t labeled, but the twist design makes it easy to switch from different settings without negatively impacting the cleaning experience. It also comes with a regular cap, a unique feature among our picks, so you can swap it for the nozzle if you need to pack it or take it on the go.

What We Like

  • Excellent mist range, even when low on liquid

  • Easy to control the mist levels

  • Smaller 10-ounce size makes it compact and lightweight

What We Don't Like

  • Not intended for cleaning products

  • Doesn’t mist as well when on its side

Spray bottles are a must for plant parents. For the best spray bottle for houseplants, we recommend the Driew Plant Mister Spray Bottle. This 10-ounce bottle comes in three colors—including a gorgeous green hue—and is constructed from high-quality and durable Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET).

It boasts an excellent mist range and is easy to control the mist levels. We found that the spray felt strongest when it was half-full or more, but it worked well when lower, too. Its smaller 10-ounce size makes it more compact and lightweight, so it’s easy to holdandhang off the side of a planter.

If you’re in need of a plant mister and a plant mister only, we think it’s a great choice—but if you need a bottle that can work for cleaning or other tasks, too, it might be a bit too narrowly focused for you.

Final Verdict

Our top pick for the best spray bottle is the Grove Co. Reusable Cleaning Bottle, which is ultra-durable, made from recycled glass, and a versatile pick for all kinds of cleaning solutions. For a more budget-friendly pick, the Everspring Glass Reusable Cleaning Spray Bottle is our runner-up. The under $7 spray bottle is also constructed from durable glass and boasts clearly labeled nozzle settings with an effective spray.

How We Tested the Spray Bottles

We tested 14 different bottles for a total of 8 hours in The Lab, assessing multiple attributes and finding answers to questions like:

  • Ease of Use: How smooth was it to fill the bottle? Was it easy and clear to change between spray settings?
  • Performance: Did water come out of the spray bottle well at all water levels?
  • Maneuverability: Was the spray bottle comfortable to hold? How did it feel to spray when full of water?
  • Durability: Did the spray trigger last through use? Was there any leaking?
  • Ease of Cleaning: How well do contents rinse out of the bottle?
  • Value: Is the price is reflective of the product’s usage and features?

What to Look for In Spray Bottles

Your Bottles Material and What Goes Inside

One of the most important things to consider when shopping for reusable spray bottles—especially if you plan to use them for cleaning products—is what they're constructed with. “Materials vary in durability and can react to what is stored in them,” says Nelson. “Some materials can break down when exposed to certain chemicals, which could result in leaching substances into your cleaning products, affecting both effectiveness and safety.”

With that in mind, the most popular and best materials for reusable spray bottles are glass and plastic (Nelson says you can also find bottles in stainless steel styles, too, but we have yet to test any).

The color of your bottle can also matter, depending on what you put inside it. Be sure to research whether a formula is light-sensitive. For example, if you use a natural or DIY cleaning solution with essential oils, you might want to opt for dark glass spray bottles—such as theSally's Organics Empty Amber Glass Spray Bottles—as sunlight can break down the essential oils.

How Will You Use Your Spray Bottle

While researching the best spray bottles, it helps to know what you'll use them for, since the recommended size, material, and type can vary per use.

For cleaning products, consider glass bottles that are easy to refill, durable and long-lasting, and won’t interfere with the formula quality (and, if your cleaning product has real essential oils in it, definitely opt for an amber spray bottle to protect it from sunlight). You can also use glass spray bottles for linen spray and room spray.

If you plan to use your spray bottle for misting houseplants, a smaller plastic option like the Drew Plant Mister Spray Bottle can work great, doesn’t take up a ton of space, and is even easy to hang from the side of a planter. Depending on the formula used, a more heavy-duty industrial bottle like the Zep Professional Sprayer Bottle is excellent for stain removers or carpet cleaners (a must for homes with pets).

The Right Size Bottle for You

Once you know what you will use your spray bottle for, size is also worth considering. Some larger glass bottles might be too heavy when cleaning the house and can cause discomfort to the wrists or fingers.

But, they lead to fewer refills on a daily basis. The largest bottle on our list is our best value pick, the Zep Professional Sprayer Bottle.

Smaller spray bottles, like our best plastic pick, the Rayson Empty Spray Bottle, are also a lot more convenient for certain tasks, such as misting houseplants or even disinfecting your coats (a mix of distilled water, vodka, and some lavender essential oil works great for this!).
